Website Project Completion Basic Checklist

Quality assurance process for completed website build.

Prior to Start:

  • Setup Google Drive & Docs in Yokel Local drive 
  • Company profile (if writing content)
  • Build navigation wireframe and design mockup

Needed Before Starting the Project:

  • Client contact info --have the client complete the website communication document (we can create one of these for Yokel Local if need be, but it just gathers login information as well as what the client likes and dislikes about websites as inspiration for their own)
  • List of competitor websites they like
  • Color scheme, fonts, and branding guidelines 
  • Hosting / Cpanel / Registrar info
  • FTP info
  • Existing website  (login info)
  • Emails (will they be affected Y/N)
  • Emails for web forms
  • High resolution vector logo 
  • Updated sales materials (pdf files)
  • Approved / updated content / images
  • SEO – metatags, keywords, descriptions
  • Sliders (content & images)
  • CTAs defined
  • Social media links
  • Google Analytics (login info)
  • Google Webmaster Tools (login info)
  • Gmail (for Analytics & Webmaster tools)
  • Google Search Console (login info)
  • Bing Webmaster (login info)
  • Local Listings Information (NAP)

Initial Demo Website Setup:

  • Install WordPress on development site
  • Install website theme
  • Install plugins (Contact, SEO, Cache, Smush.It)

During Design Process:

  • Build each page according to preset navigation
  • Follow page design guidelines
  • Add CTAs to each page
  • Reduce image and video file sizes
  • Have designer check for any design issues
  • Proof read all content
  • Check for responsiveness
  • Have designer go over the site

Go Live:

  • Download and backup all files
  • Update & install database
  • Upload new website files
  • Change wp.config connection strings
  • Fix any broken settings
  • Clean website cache
  • Delete any unused plugins
  • Google Analytics setup
  • Google Webmaster tools setup
  • Security / Marketing automation setup (if required)

Testing Process:

  • Test all web forms
  • Test site links and navigation
  • Test in multiple browsers
  • Site speed
  • 301 redirects
  • Check to see that all SEO is in place
  • XML sitemap exist and optimized
  • Robots.txt exist and optimized
  • Location based breadcrumbs
  • Internal canonicalization (if needed)
  • Destination of Inbound Links
  • Rich Snippets
  • Destination of Inbound Links
  • Run AHREFS audit if it is a site migration 
  • Mobile Friendliness

Follow up after Go Live:

  • Send client all login info
  • Schedule client training
